DB Schenker's history

Schenker UAB important events from its foundation until today

Schenker company with history of 137 years has its own history in Lithuania. Starting its presence before the World War II, it is now working in independent Lithuania.

1920 - 1940
Schenker operated in the Baltics countries between 1920 - 1940. First Schenker office was opened in Memel (nowadays Klaipeda), Börsen strasse 13. The next office was opened in Reval (Tallinn) and Riga. In 1920-1940 has worked 7 offices.

1997
8th of May in Vilnius, at Kirtimu str. 51 was opened (reopened) office of one of the members of BTL group – market leader in the Scandinavian countries – Scansped company with branch in Kaunas. We start to offer our clients local cargo collection – delivery service throughout Lithuania. We work with Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden. Number of employees – 6 persons.

1998
The first express traffic line to Helsinki.

1999
Integration of land transport activities between Schenker AG and BTL AB creates Europe’s leading logistics service provider. It’s Official establishment of name - "Schenker-BTL" UAB. The company is growing. Klaipeda branch is opening. First cargo shipments by air transport.

2000
The new address of "Schenker-BTL" UAB Kirtimu str. 47b, Vilnius.

"Schenker-BTL" UAB was awarded a “Bar of gold” by “Verslo Zinios” (Business News) newspaper as most developing company.

Office spaces grew to 850 m², warehouse – 4100 m². New department is creating logistics department. Storage and logistics services are offered to clients. Shipments are stored in regular and custom warehouses. "Schenker-BTL" UAB clients has possibility to connect their own management and organizational structures into united system with Schenker’s logistics services complex.

Partial cargo shipment lines to Germany, Austria, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Holland, Finland, Sweden, etc… Air/Sea department is established. "Schenker-BTL" UAB is official forwarder of LTOK - National Olympic Committee of Lithuania. Number of employees – 34.

2001
On 10th of October company name "Schenker-BTL" UAB is changed to "Schenker" UAB. Number of employees – 52.

2002
On 8th May 2002, company is celebrating a 5th birthday in Lithuania. "Schenker" UAB has obtained ISO 9001:2000 certificate.

The company can offer to clients 4100 m² – customs terminal and 700 m² – bounded warehouse spaces.

17570 shipments were delivered this year. Amount turnover amounts to 6738880 EUR.

"Schenker" UAB is an official supplier of freight forwarding services to the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Number of employees – 60.

2003
Deutsche Bahn acquires Stinnes Logistics share portfolio. Long terms strategic agreement with National Olympic Committee (NOC) was signed. "Schenker" UAB is considered as official NOC’s partner from cargo and customs procedures clearance for the the Olympic games on 2004 in Athens, 2006 in Turin and 2008 in Beijing. Number of employees – 63.

2004
Schenker Vilnius certified according the TAPA certificate (Technology Asset Protection Association) confirming that "Schenker" UAB in Lithuania works according the highest security requirements - level A.

2007
The new address of "Schenker" UAB is Sausių village , Trakų district. Number of employees – 94.

2008
Company re-certificate ISO 9001:2008. At the end of year "Schenker" UAB is certified according to ISO 14001 (environment certificate). Number of employees – 65.

2009
On 2009 the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts of Lithuania granted the first prize to “Schenker” UAB, which was acknowledged the best company of the year in the categories of large and medium companies. Number of employees – 54.

2010
On November 2010 “Schenker” UAB was awarded as the winner of “Lithuanian Export Prize-2010”. Number of employees – 54.

2011
At the end of 2011 "Schenker" UAB was awarded as most developing company in Lithuania on that year. Number of employees – 57.
